exercise is medicine

When it's prescribed properly

Accredited Exercise Physiologists are university-qualified allied health professionals who specialise in using movement as treatment for people living with injury, disability and complex health conditions.

Unlike a personal trainer, every program is based on clinical evidence, your medical history and your current level of function, safe, progressive and tailored specifically to you. Because exercise shouldn't feel overwhelming. It should feel possible.

meet your body where it is

Forget bootcamp culture. This is different

Real progress doesn't come from being pushed beyond your limits, it comes from the right exercises, at the right intensity, at the right time. Whether you're starting from a hospital bed, using a wheelchair, managing chronic pain or haven't exercised in years, we meet you exactly where you are today. Every program is designed around:

  • Your current abilities
  • Your medical conditions
  • Your goals
  • Your confidence
  • What you actually enjoy

No impossible expectations. No judgement. Just gradual, sustainable progress.

more than exercise

Strength for the life you want

Exercise physiology isn't about chasing fitness goals. It's about making everyday life easier. Imagine being able to:

  • Walk further without stopping
  • Get up from a chair more easily
  • Carry the groceries confidently
  • Keep up with your children or grandchildren
  • Improve balance and reduce your risk of falling
  • Have more energy throughout the day

how we match

Why CARED matches differently

Most providers allocate whoever becomes available first. We don't. Every referral is reviewed against everything that shapes a good fit, because the best outcomes happen when the practitioner fits the participant, not when they're simply free first.

exercise physiology & the ndis

Build capacity, confidence and independence

Exercise Physiology can play an important role in helping NDIS participants improve functional capacity and achieve their goals. Our Accredited Exercise Physiologists work with participants living with:

  • Autism
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Intellectual disability
  • Down syndrome
  • Acquired brain injury
  • Stroke
  • Parkinson's
  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Muscular dystrophy
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Developmental delay
  • Genetic conditions

Programs improve strength, coordination, mobility, endurance, balance and participation in everyday activities. Where appropriate, we work closely with Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists, Dietitians, Speech Therapists and Behaviour Support Practitioners, so everyone works towards the same functional goals.

we come to you

  • In your home
  • At your local gym
  • In the community
  • At a local park
  • At school
  • In residential care
  • Via telehealth

Telehealth sessions use equipment you already have, many programs need nothing more than body weight or simple household items. Available anywhere in Australia.

FAQs

An Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) is a university-qualified allied health professional who specialises in using exercise as treatment for people living with injury, disability and chronic health conditions. Unlike a personal trainer, they develop clinically prescribed programs based on your medical history, current health, functional ability and goals, helping you move better, reduce pain, build independence and improve quality of life.
Both use movement to improve health, with different areas of expertise. Physiotherapists primarily assess, diagnose and treat injuries, pain and movement problems, especially in early recovery, and may use hands-on treatment. Exercise Physiologists specialise in longer-term exercise programs for managing chronic conditions, disability and ongoing rehabilitation. At CARED, they often work together for seamless care.
Not necessarily. In many cases, appropriately prescribed exercise can help reduce pain, improve movement and increase confidence. Your Exercise Physiologist carefully considers your condition, symptoms and medical history to ensure exercises are safe. The goal isn't to push through pain, it's to help you move more comfortably over time.
We regularly support people living with arthritis, osteoporosis, diabetes, heart disease, Parkinson's, stroke, MS, cerebral palsy, autism, intellectual disability, acquired brain injury, chronic fatigue, chronic pain, cancer recovery and respiratory conditions. Every program is tailored to the individual's health, goals and abilities.
