CARED Pioneers a Data-Driven Shift in Allied Health with My Health Record

In a landmark initiative for Australian healthcare, CARED has been selected as one of the first allied health providers to build integration with My Health Record.
Led by the Australian Digital Health Agency (the Agency), this innovative project gives allied health professionals unprecedented access to essential health information, including blood tests, X-rays, and ultrasounds, enabling more informed, personalised, and data-driven client care.
An Integrated Healthcare Experience
The Agency’s mission to enhance clinical decision-making through digital connectivity is now a reality, with software integration paving the way for allied health professionals to access comprehensive consumer healthcare information.
Historically, My Health Record has been primarily accessible to GPs, limiting the full potential of collaborative healthcare. Now, with the inclusion of allied health practitioners, the sector is poised for a significant transformation.
"This work has the potential to make a real difference to the health of all Australians because their health information will be accessible to a broader care team that will include primary, acute care, and allied health, regardless of setting, including aged care," said Agency CEO Amanda Cattermole.
For CARED, this represents an unparalleled opportunity to provide more holistic and continuous care. With access to essential client health records, our practitioners can move beyond traditional, transactional telehealth models to deliver truly personalised, informed, and seamless services.
Transforming Allied Health with Data-Driven Care
Integrating My Health Record marks a transformative step towards delivering holistic, coordinated, and continuous care. With immediate access to critical client health information, CARED’s practitioners can now provide highly personalised support both via telehealth and in-home visits, ensuring continuity beyond traditional consultations.
This advancement significantly reduces clinical risk by enabling more informed, timely decision-making and enhancing multidisciplinary collaboration. Practitioners can access accurate, up-to-date diagnostic information, improving treatment outcomes and ensuring consistent care, particularly for clients managing complex or chronic conditions.
In addition, CARED’s advanced matching system ensures that clients are connected with the most suitable practitioners based on preferences such as interests, gender, language, and cultural background. This approach creates more meaningful and lasting connections, enhancing trust, communication, and overall care outcomes.
Autonomy, Choice, and Control
One of the most important aspects of this initiative is client autonomy. While this system enhances access to essential health data, it remains the client's choice to determine what information is shared and with whom.
CARED is committed to upholding this principle, ensuring that privacy and consent remain at the forefront of digital healthcare. Once the integration is rolled out, the CARED platform and app will give the client full control over the distribution and use of their personal health data.
“At CARED, we believe that better access to health data is the key to better care. This integration with My Health Record isn’t just about technology—it’s about transforming the client experience, promoting choice, and enabling practitioners to deliver truly personalised, connected care. We are proud to be leading the way in creating a more seamless, efficient, and client-focused allied health system for Australia.” said CARED CEO Karim Amin.
Electronic Prescriptions: Simplifying the Client Journey
In addition to My Health Record integration, CARED will implement electronic prescribing, significantly streamlining the healthcare journey for clients.
For example, obtaining an ADHD assessment and prescription traditionally involves waiting periods exceeding 12 months. With CARED’s integrated model, specialised clinical psychologists can promptly provide assessments, upload diagnostic information securely, and coordinate seamlessly with GPs who can issue electronic prescriptions—effectively reducing wait times from over 12 months to just a few days. This integrated approach saves valuable time, expedites treatment, and greatly enhances client outcomes.
How CARED is Leading the Digitisation of Healthcare
With over 300,000 allied health professionals delivering 200 million services annually across Australia, the potential for digital transformation is immense.
As one of the pioneering digital allied health service providers, CARED is uniquely positioned to shape the future of digital healthcare in Australia.
The upcoming launch of the CARED app next quarter, combined with the transformative integration of My Health Record and electronic prescribing, represents not just an upgrade, but a fundamental revolution in healthcare accessibility, clinical collaboration, and client-centred service delivery.
"Connecting My Health Record to our platform is transformative—it opens unprecedented opportunities for collaboration between practitioners, creating simpler referral pathways, and accelerating our vision for a connected health ecosystem," said Dr Silvia Pfeiffer, CARED Chief Product Officer.
This integration sets the stage for future expansion, connecting GPs, psychiatrists, midwives, and specialists in one ecosystem—creating the most connected and efficient allied health service in Australia.
